Signal Desk · Methodology

How TechPulse checks a Steam price before it emails you.

Price alerts should be clear about what they saw, when they saw it, and what they cannot promise. This page explains the current TechPulse Gaming process in plain language.

Set a Steam alert

01

We monitor the exact Steam product you selected.

When you create an alert, TechPulse saves the Steam App ID, title, country, currency, and rule you chose. An App ID identifies one product in Steam's catalog. That matters because a base game, deluxe edition, DLC, soundtrack, and bundle can have similar names but different prices.

The scheduled checker asks Steam's store data for that exact App ID in the saved country. It records the current amount, regular amount when Steam provides one, displayed discount percentage, currency, and the time of the observation. The service checks active alert groups on an hourly schedule.

What this avoids

A DLC or soundtrack cannot accidentally satisfy an alert that was created for the base game.

02

A message is based on the rule you saved.

There are three alert rules. “Any sale” needs Steam to show a discount. “Minimum discount” needs the displayed percentage to meet your threshold. “Maximum price” needs the observed price to be at or below your saved amount in the selected currency.

TechPulse only considers a message after a price improvement that matches the rule. Notification records are used to stop the same qualifying sale event from sending the same alert again and again. A stronger reduction or lower price can still be useful, so it can create a new signal.

We do not call a deal the best price, an all-time low, or a prediction. It is a current store observation compared with a personal rule.

03

An alert is useful information, not a reservation.

The hourly schedule means a price can change after the check and before you open the email. Steam, publishers, regional availability, currency settings, packages, taxes, and checkout conditions can all affect what you finally see. Always open the official Steam page and confirm the product, region, currency, and final checkout total before buying.

Steam can also be unavailable or return incomplete data during a check. If that happens, the checker records a failure for that attempt and continues with later scheduled checks. It does not invent a price to fill the gap.

Regional context: Valve documents that Steam supports multiple currencies and regional pricing groups in its supported-currencies documentation.

04

You confirm before an alert becomes active.

After you submit an alert, TechPulse sends a transactional confirmation link to the address entered. The alert becomes active only after that link is used. Confirmation links expire, and pending requests are cleaned up instead of staying open indefinitely.

Each alert email includes a signed management link. You can stop that alert without opening an account. TechPulse uses the email address for requested transactional price alerts and account-related messages, not for marketing without separate consent. Read the full Privacy Policy for the site's data practices.

05

TechPulse is independent from Steam.

TechPulse Gaming is an independent utility and is not affiliated with Valve or Steam. An alert does not reserve a product, guarantee stock, change your Steam account, or make a purchase for you.
