Discount alert or final-price alert? Pick the rule that matches your decision.

Two rules, two different questions
A discount alert asks: “Has this exact Steam product reached the percentage reduction I am willing to wait for?” A final-price alert asks: “Can I buy this exact product for the maximum amount I decided in advance?”
Those are not the same question. A 50% sale can still be over budget for a high-priced edition. A smaller discount can be the right time to buy if the current price is already below your cap.

Use a discount alert when patience is the strategy
Set a minimum discount when you are happy to wait and would only seriously consider the game once the sale reaches your own threshold. For example, you might decide that a back-catalog game becomes interesting at 50% off, while a newer release needs a smaller drop before you want to look at it.

Use a price alert when the final amount matters most
A price cap is better when you have a fixed amount set aside. Enter the maximum you are comfortable paying in the currency shown for the country you actually use on Steam. The alert can match even if the displayed percentage is lower than you expected, because the final price is what matters to you.
This also makes sense when comparing products with different regular prices. A standard edition and a deluxe edition can show similar discount percentages while landing at very different final amounts.

Use examples to test your rule before saving it
These are decision examples, not price forecasts. Steam prices can change, and the final store page is always the place to confirm the product, currency, availability, and checkout total.

Avoid alerts that are too vague to help
- Do not track a similarly named soundtrack, DLC, or bundle if you mean the base game.
- Do not set a percentage simply because it sounds impressive; set the point where you would actually buy.
- Do not use a different country just because it shows a different price. Save the country where you genuinely shop.
- Do not assume a sale badge guarantees a better deal than every earlier price. TechPulse reports a current observation, not a universal price-history claim.

Questions before you create an alert
Should I set both a price and a discount alert?
Start with the one that reflects your actual decision. A price cap is clearer when you have a budget; a discount threshold is clearer when you care about waiting for a stronger sale.
Is a larger discount always the better deal?
Not necessarily. A percentage is measured against the regular price shown for that product and country. Check the final amount, edition, currency, and package before buying.
Can I track a deluxe edition or DLC?
Yes, if it is a paid Steam product available in your selected country. Select that exact product rather than assuming a base-game alert covers every edition or add-on.
